THE LAB

The Energy and Environmental Research Laboratory (E2ReLab) of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is located at Evripus Campus, at Psachna Evia. It was founded in 1981 (originally as the Refrigeration, Heating, Air Conditioning and Alternative Forms of Energy Laboratory). It was fully renovated in October 2001 and since then it has been developed at research level. In 2017, E2ReLab was established with its current title (Government Gazette 2292/issue B/06.07.2017) as a laboratory of the former Mechanical Engineering Department of the Technological Educational Institution of Sterea Ellada. In 2019, E2ReLab became a laboratory of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Government Gazette 3165/issue B/12.08.2019).

Today, E2ReLab is equipped with the latest technology equipment in the fields of Renewable Energy, Cooling Heating and Air Conditioning, while an ongoing effort is being made to renew and improve the equipment. The laboratory’s team is highly trained in the use of equipment, as well as in the fields in which the E2ReLab operates. The E2ReLab expertise includes several innovations and new products that are the outcome of the laboratory’s involvement in construction and industrial projects.

The mission of the Laboratory is to serve educational and research needs in the following scientific fields:

• Renewable Sources and Energy Saving (Solar, Geothermal, Biomass, CHP, etc.) and Systems

• Heating and Systems Installations

• Cooling Devices and Systems

• Air Conditioning and Systems Installations

• Thermal Behavior of Materials and Systems

• Heat Exchangers and Systems

• Energy and Environment and Systems Technologies

Its basic activities are:

1. Training undergraduate students of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

2. Doctoral dissertations in the above scientific fields

3. Research activity on the above scientific fields, the funding of which is provided by national and international organizations (GSTR, Horizon Europe, etc.).

4. Provision of technical consultant services to companies and other organizations of the private and public sectors in the areas of Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Saving , Heating-Cooling-Air Conditioning, Thermal behavior of materials, Energy and Environmental Technologies.

5. Training of professionals with relevant to E2ReLab activities
